Zhen Wu Martial Arts Intensive Conditioning and Applications Workshop


Zhen Wu Antwerpen, the largest center for traditional Chinese martial arts in Belgium, will be hosting two intensive workshops in August dedicated to martial arts specific conditioning and applications.

Martial arts conditioning will focus on:
- stamina & endurance
- strength & flexibility
...- boxing drills and pad training
- speed training and more....

Applications training will incorporate specialized methods of conditioning from Chinese kung fu
- ti kicking
- da striking
- shuai throwing
- qin na controlling/locking

The seminar will run in two parts:
OPTION 1: 23-27 august (mon-friday), 12-17u, cost 150 euros
OPTION 2: 28-29 august (sat-sun), 12-17u, cost 70 euros

Participants of any level to join (from beginners or those looking to get in shape before the fall or competitive fighters and experienced martial artists) Some background is preferable but not absolutely necessary.

Zhen Wu instructors Kim Haukland (Norway) and Michael Martinez (South Bronx, New York) will be leading the seminars. Kim is currently an instructor at Zhen Wu Belgium, in addition to his many years experience in Chinese martial arts (mantis and tongbei), he is has also studied karate and tae kwon do. Michael (our new instructor at Zhen Wu Belgium who will be joining us in September) is professional martial artist with over 30 years experience (traditional hung gar, choi lei fut, contemporary wushu, mantis). He was a founder of Kickboxing 101 and has taught kickboxing at NY Sports Club for over 15 years. He is also a certified personal trainer.

Get ready for a hardcore workout. This will be a good opportunity for students to hone their martial skills and get back in shape after the summer and vacations!

Zhang Xinbin Laoshi












Master Zhang Xinbin was born in Beijing in the year 1954. In his late teens, he became a student of Master Zhang Guizeng and started his training in Baiyuan (White Gibbon) Tongbei. Baiyuan Tongbei is an extremely vicious, aggressive martial art, relying on fast movements, brutal techniques and crisp power. In addition to Master Zhang Guizeng's teachings, Master Zhang Xinbin also studied Chinese wrestling from Master Yang Guozhen, pushing hands from master Jiang Qimin and Yiquan from masters Li Jianyu and Yu Yongnian. In his never-ending quest to improve his Tongbei knowledge, Master Zhang started to research the style Five Elements Tongbei in early 2009. Since then, Master Zhang has incorporated the principles of Five Elements Tongbei into his own Baiyuan system.

Master Zhang is the co-founder of the Beijing International Martial Arts Camp, together with his good friend, the Late Master Mike Martello. Since Mike laoshis passing, Master Zhang has been the Chief Instructor of the Zhenwu Martial Arts School in Belgium.

Master Zhang is currently a 6th-dan(level) Wushu Coach and also Chief Instructor of the Beijing People's Martial Arts Association.

Throughout the years, Master Zhang has enthralled students and instructors with his depth and passion for the Chinese Martial Arts. He is known for his excellent methods of building martial power and also for his superb fighting skills.

Mike Martello Laoshi















Mike Martello Laoshi is the founder of Zhen Wu Belgium, this blog is dedicated to his memory and in honor of his great spirit.


Born 5th October 1966 in New York City, Mike Martello said about his childhood: „In the Town of New York you had to be tough and be able to defend yourself, especially as kid“. After years of training in several different sports and athletics he started the Martial Arts out of practical reasons. „It was first all about fighting, but Training really saved my Live more than once. It also teaches me Disciplin and Respect.“
20 Years later not only the practical Aspects of the Martial Arts inspired Mike Martello but also the Beauty of the Art and the Cultural Subjects.
But it all started with Boxing Training with his Father and than later on with Kung Fu at Teddy Wongs in New York. Later Mike Martello became Student of Master Su Yu-Chang, a Kung Fu Brother of the yet more known Adam Hsu, and learned different Mantis Styles (Tang Lang Quan) as well as Baji Quan, Bagua Zhang, Pigua Zhang, XingYi Quan, TaiJi Quan and chinese Weapons. In this time Mike Martello became Co-Trainer at the WuTang Organization of Taiwan. 2001 he was appointed Wu Tang Director by the Wu Tang Organizaton, respective Ms Liu Yun-Chiao.

Mike Martello never stopped travelling to Taiwan to learn. His last Teacher, Mr Wang Chieh taught him Yue Jia Shou (Yue Family style), Ba Bu Tang Lang, Bai He Quan (White Crane), QinNa, Shuai Jiao (chinese Wrestling), TaiJi Quan and Push Hands.

In 2007, Mike Martello organized the first International Martial Arts Camp in Beijing, China. Teachers from China welcomed students from all over the World under the guidance of Mike Martello. The Camp was a success and was repeated in 2008 in China and Belgium as well.

Mike Martellos last residence was in Antwerp, Belgium where he taught students from all over Europe and even the states.

Mike Martello was born with
Wolff-Parkinson White Syndrome, a congential heart defect. On the morning of June 2nd, 2009, Mike Martello passed away suddenly in Belgium. He will be forever missed and his legacy lives on through Zhen Wu worldwide.
